And another RASC

This just popped up on FamilySearch while I was looking around: George William Flury, father to Elizabeth Flury, and father-in-law to Sidney Robertson.

In 1918 as the Great War was coming to an end, GW Flury (1872-1924) was drafted at age 46 to serve in the Royal Army Service Corp.

Here are his records:

On July 25th 1918 Flury was called up for service at Park Royal, London. Service number #T/425958, he was attached to the 206th Auxiliary Horse Company, Royal Army Service Corps (formed December 1914, served as 21 Reserve Park, GHQ Troops in France). His enlistment papers give the following details from his army medical examination: he was 5’4″, weighed 140lbs, with black hair, brown eyes, sallow complexion, with a 35″ chest. A pretty small guy for a middle aged man.

He was demobbed in 1919.

Interesting, of course, that his grand-daughter Kay Robertson (my maternal grandmother) married John Horn, whose father Rupert also served in the RASC -as a younger man- during WW1.

Flury – my 2nd great-grandfather- died just a few years later in 1924, aged 52, at St. George’s, Hanover Square, London. St. George’s is the parish church of Mayfair, which sounds pretty fancy, but the Flurys had lived in and around Chelsea, Kensington and Fulham for many years.

  1. Thanks Rob it’s lovely to have this information to help fill in the many gaps in my knowledge of our family.
Hope you’re all still well – is lockdown being relaxed in Savannah? Xxx

    1. Thanks, Gill – I wish we had more photos of that side of the family, it’d be fun to see what they all looked like! We’re well, lockdown all but over here (not good).
